Warranty & Authenticity
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Others sell the color. We sell the metal.
Most fashion jewelry brands sell plated steel or brass — a thin layer of the look, over a base metal. Milano Cupertino does not. Every piece we describe as silver is crafted in solid 925 sterling silver, through and through: 92.5% pure silver alloyed for strength, the international standard for fine silver jewelry. There is no base metal underneath, because there is no “underneath” — the piece is the metal. Where a piece carries a gold or black-rhodium look, that is an authentic precious-metal finish — a layer of real 18k gold (white, yellow or rose) or rhodium applied over the solid 925 silver, never solid gold sold as such and never base metal under a coating. Every product page states the metal, fineness and finish of the piece, because when you sell the real thing, you publish the numbers.
That is also why we can do what plated brands cannot: guarantee our pieces for life.
The Milano Cupertino Lifetime Warranty
Every solid 925 sterling silver piece is covered by our Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects — for as long as you own it, with no registration, no fine-print activation, no time limit. The warranty covers defects that originate in how the piece was made, for example:
- Structural failure of the metal under normal use — a link that opens, a solder joint that gives way.
- Clasp or lock mechanism failure under normal use.
- Assembly defects, including a stone that loosens or falls because its setting was faulty.
- Any fault that compromises normal wear of the piece and was not caused by an external factor.
If a covered defect appears — whether in the first month or the tenth year — we repair or replace the piece free of charge. If repair or replacement is not possible (for example, a discontinued design), we offer you an equivalent piece or a refund. Simple as that.
What the Lifetime Warranty does not cover
The warranty guarantees how the piece was made — not everything that can happen to it afterwards. It does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear from continuous use — fine surface marks and the gradual softening of finish that every daily-worn piece of jewelry develops.
- Impact damage — drops, knocks, dents, bending, deformation from undue force, or breakage from accidents.
- Chemical damage — exposure to perfume, alcohol, creams and lotions, chlorine, pool and sea water, sweat left uncleaned, or cleaning products.
- Improper storage — excessive humidity, pieces stored loose and rubbing against each other, or corrosion from neglect.
- Natural surface tarnish resulting from lack of basic care — see the care guide below; tarnish on genuine sterling silver is natural, superficial and removable.
- Third-party intervention — repairs, resizing or alterations performed outside our atelier void the warranty on the affected piece.
- Loss or theft, and non-metal components such as cords and elastics, which are wear parts.
Black rhodium and plated finishes — read this before buying a black piece
Some of our most distinctive pieces carry a black rhodium finish over the solid 925 silver. We want you to understand exactly what that means, because honesty before the sale beats disappointment after it.
Black rhodium is an applied precious-metal coating — the finest way to achieve a true black on real silver, used across high jewelry. Like every plated finish from every brand in the world, it is subject to gradual natural wear: friction, sweat, skin chemistry, abrasive surfaces, chemicals and salt water slowly soften its tone over time. How fast depends almost entirely on how the piece is worn and cared for.
For that reason, the Lifetime Warranty covers the structural integrity of the solid 925 silver piece underneath — links, clasps, settings, solder — but does not cover the natural wear of the surface finish itself: gradual fading, lightening or loss of tone of the black rhodium is not a defect, it is the nature of any plated finish. The care guide below significantly extends its life; and when a black piece eventually earns its patina, that worn-in graphite look is part of its character — or write to us about re-plating options.
How to make a warranty claim
- Email contatto@milanocupertino.com with your order number, a short description of the issue, and clear photos or a short video of the piece.
- Our team assesses your claim — in most cases from the photos alone — within 7 business days, and confirms the solution.
- If the defect is covered, we repair or replace the piece free of charge, including all shipping, both ways.
- If a physical inspection is genuinely required, we send you shipping instructions — and for claims accepted under warranty, shipping is on us.
- If our assessment finds the damage is not covered (impact, chemicals, wear), we tell you exactly why, with the evidence — and where possible we offer a paid restoration service at our atelier, or return the piece to you untouched. Your choice.
Your legal rights — always untouched
The Milano Cupertino Lifetime Warranty is a voluntary commercial guarantee, provided in addition to your statutory rights. It never limits or replaces them, and they apply independently of it, free of charge:
- European Union: the legal guarantee of conformity of at least 2 years from delivery — 3 years for consumers in Spain.
- United Kingdom: the remedies of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for goods not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose or not as described.
- Switzerland: the statutory warranty for defects under the Swiss Code of Obligations.
- United States: applicable warranties under federal and state law.
If a piece does not conform to the contract, you are entitled to the remedies provided by the law of your country of residence — typically repair or replacement free of charge and, where those are impossible or disproportionate, a price reduction or refund. To exercise your legal guarantee rights, contact us at contatto@milanocupertino.com.
Caring for your piece — the five rules
Solid 925 sterling silver is made to be worn daily and to last a lifetime. Five habits keep it looking the way it left the atelier:
- Jewelry goes on last, comes off first. Put your piece on after perfume, cologne and creams have dried — and take it off before applying anything. Chemicals are silver’s only real enemy.
- No pool, no sea, no gym, no shower. Chlorine and salt water attack both silver and plated finishes; sweat left on the metal accelerates tarnish. Take the piece off first — it takes two seconds.
- Wipe after wearing. A quick pass with the included polishing cloth after a day’s wear removes oils and sweat and keeps the shine permanent. For black rhodium pieces, wipe gently — never with abrasive cloths or silver-dip liquids, which strip the finish.
- Store each piece alone. Keep it in its Milano Cupertino pouch, away from humidity, and never loose in a drawer with other pieces — metal-on-metal friction scratches everything it touches.
- Embrace the patina — or remove it. Genuine sterling silver naturally develops a soft patina with air and skin contact. It is a property of the real metal — plated steel never does this — and it polishes away in seconds with the care cloth. It is not a defect; it is proof.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my piece is really 925 silver?
Every piece’s metal, fineness and weight are stated on its product page, and solid silver behaves like solid silver: it has real weight in the hand, it develops (and loses) natural patina, and it can be polished forever because there is no coating to wear through. Plated steel can do none of that.
Is the Lifetime Warranty really for life?
Yes — for as long as you own the piece, against manufacturing defects, with no registration required. Keep your order number; that is all you need.
My piece darkened. Is it defective?
No — that is natural patina, the signature of genuine sterling silver. Thirty seconds with the polishing cloth restores it. If darkening is extreme, review the care rules above (usually perfume or humidity is the culprit).
My black piece is getting lighter on the edges. Warranty?
That is the natural wear of the black rhodium finish — not a structural defect, and not covered. The care rules above slow it dramatically; and if you want it back to full black, ask us about restoration.
A stone fell out. Covered?
If it fell because the setting was faulty — yes, covered, for life. If the piece took a visible impact — that is accident damage. Send photos and we will assess it honestly, and offer paid restoration if it is not covered.
Can I get my piece repaired even if it is my fault?
Usually yes — our atelier offers paid restoration for damage outside warranty. Write to contatto@milanocupertino.com with photos and we will quote it.
